Any chance for Jack Midi support?

I have a firewire interface and my midi keyboard always appears as Jack midi (because ffado uses jack midi, not alsa midi). However, with a saved qtractor session I always have to connect the keyboard to qtractor via a2jmidid by hand, ie. qtractor does not remember the connection. So Jack midi support would be handy so the jack midi connection can be saved with the session. Thanks.

not likely. not even soon.

qtractor is tightly engaged with alsa-seq midi scheduling and thread model--switching to jack-midi is a whole new project and outright fundamental rewrite. sorry.

meanwhile, the qjackctl patchbay might be handy when connecting your h/w and a2jmidid.

cheers

hi Rui
any progress/change on this item ?
(guess not, but you never know)

thanks

i'm sorry to tell. there isn't a single notch of progress in this subject.

however, there's some hope, if your question aims about rendering of MIDI instrument tracks as audio file export--it will happen, sooner than latter ;)

cheers

ps. [UPDATE:] qtractor v0.6.6.7+ (todays git head master) makes its debut as for MIDI track/instrument rendering on audio track export (menu Track/Export Tracks/Audio...) -- though still experimental it's already live and getting a pretty and seamless integration.

nb. this kind of "MIDI instrument tracks freeze" functionality was, by far, one of the oldest features laconically ditched as the major qtractor's shortcoming due to its non use of the acclaimed sample-accurate jack-midi rendering potential--aha. not anymore, bitch please :)

enjoy.

Hi Rui,

This is fantastic news - had no idea you were planning it :-) Have just tested out the latest revision and it seems to be working. I'll update the wiki/my How To with this info, but just to check on the functionality (pardon my technical ignorance) first - I take it this feature is only relevant for MIDI tracks with plug-in instruments? When using external JACK-aware synths, connected via the Connections window, you'd still need to bounce the audio first in order to export it?

yes, correct!

the audio tracks export only deals with MIDI instrument tracks ie. MIDI tracks with instrument/synth plugins. you still have to record/bounce all external instrument synths though driven by JACK-MIDI or ALSA-MIDI.

cheers

Thanks for the confirmation. Will get the documentation updated...
