QjackCtl 0.4.1 is out!

Yup, that's true:

QjackCtl 0.4.1 (fall'15) is out!

QjackCtl is a(n ageing but still) simple Qt application to control the JACK sound server, for the Linux Audio infrastructure.

website:
http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net
downloads:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/qjackctl/files

Change-log:

  • Probing portaudio audio device in a separate thread (by Kjetil Matheussen, thanks).
  • Messages standard output capture has been improved again, now in both ways a non-blocking pipe may get.
  • Regression fix for invalid system-tray icon dimensions reported by some desktop environment frameworks.
  • New hi-res application icon (by Uttrup Renzel, Max Christian Pohle, thanks).
  • System tray icon red background now blinks when a XRUN occurs.
  • Desktop environment session shutdown/logout management has been also adapted to Qt5 framework.
  • Single/unique application instance control adapted to Qt5/X11.
  • Prefer Qt5 over Qt4 by default with configure script.
  • Override-able tool-tips with latency info (re. Connections JACK client/ports: patch by Xavier Mendez, thanks).
  • Complete rewrite of Qt4 vs. Qt5 configure builds.
  • French (fr) translation update (by Olivier Humbert, thanks).

License:

QjackCtl is free, open-source Linux Audio software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later.

From the footnote department: for quite some time there's an alternate github.com repository which is kept in sync with the sf.net one. However, this doesn't mean that the QjackCtl project is about to migrate to a brand new hosting whatsoever: the original upstream source code repository is, will be, as ever was, always kept somewhere else still in this world and universe.

Enjoy && keep the fun!

Thanks for this Rui. QjackCtl is still one masterpiece.

Is that how you say it? Anyway, this piece of software is everywhere you look, in some places newbies even mistake JACK for it :) And as a user of QTractor (my main rig for many years now) I enjoy the per-session patch savings (basically all the controls are in QTractor) that is pretty cool :)

QJackctl allows me to bypass jackdbus on my Ubuntu boxes, while this pulse-jack integration is still quite unstable. If I lauch QTractor first hand, jackdbus is spawned and 1-I get a lot of xruns and 2-I can't restart it w/o a reboot. This situation has been going on for years, many minor jack versions, and two HW interfaces. BTW is someone has a good resource about optimizing the use of a MAudio fasttrack pro on GNU/Linux, I'd be much obliged.

So yes, QJackctl for the win! Thank you again, Rui Nuno!!

PS - New song (made in QTractor) "Off The Grid" :)

I cannot be more grateful for this little tool. Makes JACK work like a charm. I do not normally go for GUIs for stuff like this; qjackctl is a rare exception. Great work.

And may I ask, how come we Qtractor users don't get to enjoy big icons (32x32 are much easier to reach quickly) in the connections window, like in Qjackctl? The "expand all" button is also a nice one to have.

hi,

btw. and 1st of all, i've been really enjoying your new album (Yassin Philip - Faux Frogs). 2nd. i'm actually in love with your tutorial on LMP (Qtractor QuickStart). now the question fades/reverbs away: why don't you give a little hand to the wiki? ;) your work is and will be priceless. \o/

now to the subject at hand... erm. well, the big icons on qjackctl were in fact an old feature request from more than a decade ago (!). yep. not kidding at all.

nowadays, we all know that the advent of supa-dupa-hi-res screens are taking the bloat out of yore. my opinion goes that 4K (and 8K whatever) will be great for film making, mostly capture, cinema-wise recording and what not, and otoh. 2K (or FHD) is far well and quite enough for room/individual playback screening. yeah. you can reckon that old 640K-ram-is-enough-for-everyone saying from the old 80's, but we're not talking about machine power, instead we're talking about human vision and real eye-balls-thru-brain perception--trivia riddle alert!---do you know that your eyeball (or any other humans for that matter) does not ever change or grow during your entire lifetime? yep. since birth to the grave? :)

yet however, earing is another subject.

byee.

Wow, master, thank you very much, this is really something. Makes my day ; Come to think of it, not often times does one get congrats for his work from the author of the very tool used to accomplish it. The work. I feel dizzy :)
About the wiki, I remember making a few inputs on it, but I lost my SF access somehow (it's the 2nd time in 20 years, what is it with me and SF?) anyway, you are right, I'm going to get back on it. And about the tutorial, we intend to start a whole Qtractor section on LMP, so thank you again for you kind proof-reading.

About this icon "issue" (the French word for what I have in mind is "caprice") I don't get you: Precisely, the bigger the screen, the higher the res, the smaller the things on it..? Are you saying you're going to take the option back from Qjackctl? I should have kept my mouth shut :)

caprice as in italian/latin capriccio, or english (aka. high-german) whim or a portuguese capricho ? :)

no, i ain't giving up old qjackctl bigger than 32x32px icons whatsoever. what i'm probably saying, perhaps surreptitiously (is that even a word?) is that all, i mean ALL q-stuff icons should, must though, go through the scalable route eventually. iow. get replaced by their svg (?) cousins. some are already, but the vast majority are still lingering back from the dang old'95 days ;)

cheers

Exactly. We frenchies speak some sort of middle-german ;)

> ALL q-stuff icons should, must though, go through the scalable route eventually.

Agreed. Hey BTW I just saw a several years-old message of you on SForge about the main Qtractor icon. Remember my "Tractor tire" proposal. Your message said "are you serious?" I'm afraid I was. And instead of annoying you with this icon (you like it, what am I gonna do?) I implemented mine. You know, with the according .desktop somewhere in /usr/share/applications. It rolls ;) http://pix.toile-libre.org/?img=1449856678.png
