Plugin effects to clips?

Hi,

I guess plugin effects only work for whole tracks and not for selected clips? I mean, to edit an audio clip with a plugin effect, in the same way as when you mark it and edit it with Gain, Merge, Normalize, Stretch, etc, isn't possible?

Btw, it would be great for the workflow if one could mark a part of a clip directly with the mouse, instead of having to place the red playhead first and choose split. (mark > right click > Split doesn't work btw, you have to mark > right click > Clip > Split). Of course, there's the blue select markers, but as I understand them, they're only for loop function?

yes, plugins chains are part of a whole track or bus; there's no plans to make them designated for single clips. sorry.

re. mark a part of a clip directly with the mouse
check any other select mode (cf. menu Edit/Select Mode) to other than Clip: Range and Rectangle modes let you select sub-regions or intra-clip segments with the mouse.

"there's no plans to make them designated for single clips. sorry."

Sad to hear, because that's essencial for me:( but fair enough.

About select modes, afaics they're only for moving regions /clips, not for editing them. My purpose with selecting a clip would mostly be to edit it, so I wouldn't have to split two times first.

what about using Edit / Split (split current selection) instead of Clip / Split (split current clip at play-head) ?

i must say now that the former follows the standard qtractor's design pattern and editing model while the later was kind of an indulgence towards one cherished early adopter (very primordial, almost a decade ago now) and user request, who asked for it probably commended back from protools/ardour's usage or die-hard vice :)

I hadn't even noticed Edit / Split, - thanks! :) That does it.

That Clip / Split indeed sounds like a relic from good old days :)

I wonder if possible to limit the selection to one single track, instead of all tracks? Because "Select Clip", as well as "Select Range" and "Select Rectangel", selects across all the tracks, not just one.

note that the Edit/Select Mode/Rectangle mode does allow for your doing a discrete lasso over selecting clips regions or segments, not quite over all tracks at once as does Edit/Select Mode/Range.

you can also use some so called boolean operations, while pressing Shift (AND) or Ctrl (XOR)...

this is the general and standard multi-selection model which pervades qtractor ever since...

nb. the same common standard applies to the MIDI clip editor.

Okay thanks. I have selected Rectangel, but how do I do a discrete lasso?

maybe it's just me and my proverbial lack of tact ;)

i say, you do it the usual way: point, click on one corner and drag to the other corner and release (aka. rubber-band selection).

Okay :) I should just place the cursor inside the clip, not at the bar line, as I used to do. Thank you :)

Cheers
