Clips silent after reload - corrupted project

Hey Rui!

This is a very weird bug and a nasty one. I was editing a podcast recording. After several hours of work I rendered it and closed Qtractor. Upon editing a podcast in a sound editor, I noticed I had it amplified too much, so I went back to Qtractor, only to find the project corrupted.

Here is the project in question, a little over 100 Mb:
http://www.disc-shelf.com/var_files/

What happens is that from 55.40 clips stop playing. You can see them, they have all the waveforms, but nothing is played. If you render it - there will be silence instead of those clips.
If you copy a silent clip to another track - it starts playing. But if you try to move a clip in Track 1 or delete a clip from Track 1 (any clip, even a playing one), Qtractor freezes.
Qtractor also freezes after render.

So it seems something got broken in the clip order. Just to give you a hint, I did edit it from start to end, but then returned to the beginning and cut clips some more. But I did that before. So this is just my wild guess.

Also, if I copy the whole track 1 to some other track, seemingly random, but different set of clips will not get played. This set stays the same if you reopen the project.

Hope this helps as I had this problem before, but with a plugin (once I removed a plugin, track worked). Was surprised this time no plugin involved.

well i can exactly reproduce that the playback simply mutes after 00:55:40 onwards; also trying to move the clip around, either by dragging to another track or just trying to remove it, one of the cores gets simply frozen cpu->100% which reminds me a dead-loop or something like that.

i didn't even try exporting the audio or rendering as you say. this is caught on plain regular playback.

don't have a clue yet of what's happening so i won't give you any predictions or promises here. but at least we have a repeatable evidence. ;)

cheers

apparently due to too many splits over the same audio sample file; also, it choked on cleanup of more than a hundred clips in the same audio track...

maybe fixed now, on svn trunk rev.3453+ (aka. qtractor 0.5.10.5+)

please test && tell
cheers

Hey Rui!

Thanks for looking into it. I will test after a while, quite busy now editing another podcast... Tell me, was there a limit on the amount of cuts?

This is weird, because in this exact case when recording a podcast I actually split it in several files while recording, whereas I have podcasts with just one hour long file with an even larger amount of cuts.

there never was a limit, as there isn't now either.

what was actually missing was some slack, as to let hundreds of clips do their thing without stepping on each other toes en masse ;)

cheers

Rui, still haven't updated to a custom version. Will this fix be in the next Qtractor update? I continue to have same problem with projects, but I just try to edit without closing Qtractor, render it instantly and only then close the project - because next time it will be corrupt.

you should. next dot release will be any time soon anyway.
