too bad i have no help to give on firewire devices--i never ran into one myself, to date :( sorry.

it looks like your device as if it's not working all though the firewire system stack (ffado); the lack of diagnostic messages from the jackd log above doesn't give the slightest clue of what's going on or went wrong--it just dies on start-up and no explanation is given whatsoever... dang!

that's why i suspect the problem might be on the current device driver sub-system... maybe your device is not fully recognized or supported through ffado ? you can try ffado-diag and ffado-test utilities for interesting diagnostic info but please, don't ask me of any results you may find, just because i don't know a thing about those kind of devices (firewire) :) instead, you should go into the ffado.org forums or mail-lists, look for your specific device (presonus firepod?) and ask / report there your findings.
