G3N-es, I've read your comments a few times and find myself confused. I have to think we're blurring the lines between 2 different sets of concerns. You seem to be thinking more about the templating side of things (bootstrapping a new project) whereas my comments regarding absolute paths vs. relative are focused on recovering a project.
I say this because a relative thing shouldn't be concerned in the slightest with the concept of a root directory (what you're referring to as a "reference point"). A relative directory is completely sovereign.
About the suggestion to automate the manual editing of the .qtr file, sure... I could easily script it as you said but I do remember discovering Qtractor goes ahead and sets the property back to the absolute path when saving the session.
