To beta or not to beta

I was advocating qtr recently when somebody told me they had decided not to try qtractor because it claims to (still) be alpha software on its homepage. That made me think - how many other people have been put off giving qtractor a try simply by the Qwares eternal alpha badge? I personally think its a bit unfair on your baby to downplay it as still being alpha. Its more stable in my experience than most other Linux DAWs that claim to have long left beta behind.

qtractor is soon to turn 0.6 so the next release seems like an ideal time for the project to shed its alpha label and break on through into the bold, brave new world of betadom. As you said in your recent interview, you don't plan on adding any more big new features to qtr and people still expect bugs in beta software so by labelling it as such I think you'd be more accurate and honest about its status whilst still alerting people to the fact that its not perfect and not entirely finished.

beta is just less scary - what thinks the Ru'ster?

sold!

next dot release, whatever its codename is, not even sure whether it will be 0.5.13 or brand new 0.6.0 , will be tagged "beta" alright.

one small step forward, inexorably towards "omega" :)

cheers

I'm quite surprised I managed to talk you into it - I thought qtr would be alpha 'til omega!

I'd like to see qtractors beta phase synced with both the new codenames and 0.6.x - nice and orderly - but any time soon will do I suppose as I think its really been beta for a while now - since the passing of TYOQA at least!
