PORTRAIT OF A WEB HOMELESS
Greetings Altermedians!
I've known rncbc for about 25 years... hell! we're getting old...
I don't quite have much to do with the Altermedia Project except
that we've been discussing a name for it during a somehow long
dinner. That wasn't fun for everyone else. Anyway, I believe Altermedia
might become an interesting what-so-ever in the near future -
the kid's got guts! - so I decided this was a good home in the
web and I accepted being here. Thanks Rui!
Pers-data Intro
Luis Miguel Brites de Sousa, n. 15th of May 1964 in Lisbon, degree
in Modern Languages and Literatures - Faculty of Arts, University
of Lisbon (1988), post-graduation in Education Science - Faculty of
Phsycology and Education Science, University of Lisbon
(1992), MSc in Information Management -
USDIS-University of Sheffield Department of Information Studies; domain - Information Management,
impact of the quaternary sector evolution in industrially based
economies (1994).
Academic interests
- Information and knowledge transfer - transnational information systems;
development of an information net for the portuguese information science
community (PhD project aproved by USDIS-University of Sheffield Department
of Information Studies, June 1994) (waiting for a good reason
to try to get funding again).
- Multimedia - impact of multimedia services and products on the scope of
information transfer, distance learning, and corporate image.
Professional activity
Teacher of Portuguese language and literature (Ministry of Education):
I'm teaching at high-school level - young and older people - and I confess it's
not much fun to do it.
Public relations and corporate image, and more recently,
Information Management (at INETI-National Institute of Industrial
Engineering and Technology, Ministry of Economy):
At present I'm working at INETI/CITI-Centre of Technical Information
for the Industry, being in charge of the design and edition of promotional
material - I've also participated in training activities in this area.
But this is a subsidiary activity. Most of my tasks are within the scope of
the EU programme IMPACT-Information Market Policy ACTion;
CITI is the NAP-National Awareness Partner of IMPACT in Portugal;
my activities whithin this scope include information management
(coming from the EC-European Commission, the DGXIII
and the IMPACT's CST-Central Support Team, aiming at an effective information dissemination
and the organization of awareness strategies targeted to the Portuguese
Information Market actors. In January 96 I became responsible for web matters
with an emphasis on the stucturing and edition of our
homepage.
Electronic edition (free-lance):
Happens every now and then;
it's cool but the clients aren't prepared
to pay much for it - not yet. The net will probably foster this area of
activity - I believe
one day there'll be better market conditions.
The Future
I'm not sure that I want to apply for a PhD; so, meanwhile - I'm interested
in learning a bit more about corporate image on the web; I would also like
to learn how to get filthy rich with little effort (silly joke).
Other interests
Many.
