Deleting the inserts..that did it! Wow. So of course, that's not going to be a solution (I tested this against a copy of a working session in order to revert to something usable quickly) but it does prove this UI quirk is associated with routing via inserts. I can't even begin to understand why so will leave to the experts here.
G3N-es, now that I can toggle this "jump" behavior via insert routing, I can't help but wonder if you'd be able to reproduce it by making use of the approach?
Also, knowing this, I'll try (again) to create a small sample session but that won't happen until Sunday.

Update: While everything mentioned above is correct, I couldn't resist recreating my ~/.config/rncbc.org/Qtractor.conf in order to see the results. Amazingly, this ALSO fixed the problem (I'm testing now against the original session file).
