yes there's probably a bad conversion...

here you may find a good rendering to the "Duke3D_song.mid", one that is a well formed SMF (Standard MIDI File format) and non-defectively converted, as are most of the ones you're trying...

and please stop waving about Carla... you may use whatever makes you happier any time :)
