I wanted to experiment with Drumkv1 to use it as a percussion synthesizer.
Not just as a percussion sampler, but as a synthesizer.
I generated a "bang" with Audacity, compressed it as an .ogg file, and got a starting sample of only 8 kB. From there, I created a complete drum kit.
By the way, Drumkv1 doesn't include the ".ogg" extension, only ".oga." That's something that should be added.
I think the result is fun and usable.
Rui, if you'd like, I think it would be helpful for users to include this preset (or a similar one) in their Drumkv1 installation. This helps new users have a starting point for exploration and learning.
I've attached the kit and a mini-demo of it in .qtz.
Best regards
P.S.:
Playing with Drumkv1, I also noticed a feature missing.
MIDI keys without a sample assigned should appear grayed out. This helps visualize which notes are active (black or white, depending on the key) when you open a preset/instrument, or when you're assembling one.
re. Drumkv1 Demo Preset...
hi, good job, thanks
right, ".ogg" is a generic container format while ".oga" is the same but specific to audio content only; you may well load a ".ogg" file fine, provided you set the file requester filter to "All files (.)"; you may also drag-n-drop it over the sample list or widget.
yeah, will think about it, soonish ;)
cheers
drag-n-drop
Drag-n-drop doesn't work in version LV2.
I assume you're aware of this and that it's a limitation of the plugin adaptation. However, it wouldn't hurt if instead of saying:
(double-click or drop....)
it said:
(double-click ....)
As it stands, it seems there's something wrong.
I think including ogg in the list is simple and would avoid frustration for users. In fact, it appears in the Qtractor import list as "OGG Vorbis (.ogg)".
Why the frustration? Because Audacity saves in ogg, even though oga is more correct. So everyone saves samples and conversions in ogg. When you import into Drumkv1 or Samplv1, the first impression is that it doesn't accept the format... even though it does.
Thanks for thinking about the gray keys :)
