Control Synthv1 with an arduino

Hi there. I'm currently working on this project where I want to run the synthv1 on a raspberry pi and control it with an Arduino. I want to controll the settings of filters, oscillators etc. with buttons and switches connected to the Arduino. Since I'm fairly new to coding I was wondering how I could implement that so that every time I press a button the setting on e.g. the osc 1 would change in a loop (so that when Noise is selected and press the button again, the sinewave will be selected again). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
