Fender Mustang USB

Hi,
I have been trying to record from a Fender Mustang amp, thru its USB cable. I use Ubuntu Studio 12.04. The amp is recognized by the computer. I can record into Audacity and Sound Recorder, but I can't make it work under QJack into Ardour or Qtractor. The only way I can record is if I choose the Mustang amplifier as Interface in the setup menu, which gives me no output (The amp is not like a two-way card, it only outputs the signal). Anything else (choose usb audio or Mustang Amp as Input) fails.
If anyone has ever had to deal with issues like this, please let me know.

Thanks!

you better ask about this on the alsa and ultimately jack-devel mail lists, or #jack channel on irc.freenode.net.

but, could it be that that usb device is a "capture-only" one? that is, you can only record audio from it, no playback is allowed nor possible?--you may try then to set Audio := "Capture Only" on qjackctl/Setup/Settings dialog and try whether jackd starts in better shape that way :)

Thanks. I will check it out with the alsa team. I tried with capture only, I can record, but only with Mustang as interface, which makes it impossible to monitor anything. I read somewhere that jack only uses one card at a time, so if it uses the amp as a card, I am left with no output. Then again I know some people have managed it successfully. There's a saying in french (my mother tongue as I have seen you know): 100 times on the workbench you shall try your work... I'll figure it out at some point. The good thing is, I realized how user-friendly Qtractor can be. Nice piece of software.
Cheers!

you can have one device for capture (input; ie. your fender usb amp) and yet another for playback (output; eg. your pc-soundcard);
check that out on qjackctl/Setup/Settings/Input Device (-C), Output Device (-P) resp.
you must revert the Audio setting to "Duplex" though.
once you set any of those fields, the main Interface one is of no consequence.
oh. and possibly both devices must support and function at very same sample-rate (-r), period-size (-p), number of buffers (-n) and what not, but if you set them with some conservative figures i guess it will be alright (eg. -r48000 -p128 -n3)
