I wanted to experiment with Drumkv1 to use it as a percussion synthesizer.
Not just as a percussion sampler, but as a synthesizer.
I generated a "bang" with Audacity, compressed it as an .ogg file, and got a starting sample of only 8 kB. From there, I created a complete drum kit.
By the way, Drumkv1 doesn't include the ".ogg" extension, only ".oga." That's something that should be added.
I think the result is fun and usable.
Rui, if you'd like, I think it would be helpful for users to include this preset (or a similar one) in their Drumkv1 installation. This helps new users have a starting point for exploration and learning.
I've attached the kit and a mini-demo of it in .qtz.
Best regards
P.S.:
Playing with Drumkv1, I also noticed a feature missing.
MIDI keys without a sample assigned should appear grayed out. This helps visualize which notes are active (black or white, depending on the key) when you open a preset/instrument, or when you're assembling one.
re. Drumkv1 Demo Preset...
hi, good job, thanks
right, ".ogg" is a generic container format while ".oga" is the same but specific to audio content only; you may well load a ".ogg" file fine, provided you set the file requester filter to "All files (.)"; you may also drag-n-drop it over the sample list or widget.
UPDATE2: fixed in drumkv1 >= 1.3.1.7git.9a3260 (also on samplv1)
yeah, will think about it, soonish ;)
UPDATE: sooner :) drumkv1 >= 1.3.1.5git.487a54
cheers
drag-n-drop
Drag-n-drop doesn't work in version LV2.
I assume you're aware of this and that it's a limitation of the plugin adaptation. However, it wouldn't hurt if instead of saying:
(double-click or drop....)
it said:
(double-click ....)
As it stands, it seems there's something wrong.
I think including ogg in the list is simple and would avoid frustration for users. In fact, it appears in the Qtractor import list as "OGG Vorbis (.ogg)".
Why the frustration? Because Audacity saves in ogg, even though oga is more correct. So everyone saves samples and conversions in ogg. When you import into Drumkv1 or Samplv1, the first impression is that it doesn't accept the format... even though it does.
Thanks for thinking about the gray keys :)
re. drag-n-drop (in LV2 plugin)...
yes it doesn't work on the LV2 plugin, but it should on the JACK stand-alone..
byee
UPDATE: out of curiosity, it doesn't work on the default LV2 X11_UI only; old External_UI works fine.
True!!!
It works well with the external GUI. I re-enabled the option to have it available.
I'm missing another feature (just letting you know it would be extremely useful). Before the "Reset" button, there are two copy and paste buttons. If "Reset" applies the default settings, "Paste" would apply the settings to the XML position indicated by "Copy."
I know implementing this could be difficult, as it would affect the entire suite, although Reset and Random already do something very similar (from a development point of view, not a result point of view).
I currently use Kate for these tasks, editing the XML by hand... but those two buttons would make a difference.

After seeing how Drumv1 works, I decided to give Synthv1 a try and experiment with it (since the entire suite shares the same interface logic) and... Amazing!!!
I've never created sounds in synthesizers from scratch, I've modified presets... This is the first time I've been able to imagine a sound (hear it in my head) and bring it to my ears with a synthesizer. :)
Thanks for implementing the gray keys and everything else.
