Qtractor has two capabilities that is missing in all plugin hosts I have found:
- extensive set of plugin formats
- midi cc mapping to plugin parameters
I have a need for both of these capabilities so I need to understand if it will be possible to create something like this using a qtractor instance:
- 5 different external midi inputs (e.g. 5 different keyboards)
- each of the midi inputs is driving at least one synth plugin
- synth outputs either wired thru qtractor mixer or to external audio outputs
- in case simultaneous midi data on all midi inputs, all synths produce output simultaneously
If you think this is possible, I would love to get some instructions or hints on how this could be achieved.
re. Qtractor as plugin host...
yes it's all perfectly possible
the least and probably only thing you may have to take care is about configuring each MIDI keyboard/controller to send on different MIDI channels on their own, so that it can discriminate on which is which.
then you can setup one MIDI track/channel for each controller and insert a respective instrument plugin; connect all keyboard/controllers to the same MIDI input bus port, usually Master In (and also to Control In port, in case if you have it configured as dedicated).
hth.
cheers
