Easy switching between samples

Forums

The following feature would allow for much more fluid kit customization.

It would allow:
1_
Being able to listen to sample previews in folders without having to use an external player.
2_
Customize kits in a fast and intuitive way.

Functionality:
If you press [Control] on an already loaded sample in the sample list and roll the mouse wheel, the next/previous sample in the folder is loaded and can be listened to by activating the MIDI controller.

If you organize your samples in folders by instrument, instead of folders by kit, you could customize kits for any song in seconds.

If we add to this the fact that DrumKit allows you to load two instances*1 in the same track and listen to both, the customization possibilities expand incredibly, allowing you to use multiple sounds to build an instrument.

(*1Even if it doesn't allow it, there is a way to achieve this with any plugin, and that's by alternating plugins and auxiliary sends... I'm planning to write a tutorial on this.)

I leave it for your consideration.

PS
This is the year I discovered the power of percussion to modify the atmosphere of songs. No plugin allows me to easily do what I needed (customize instruments based on the mix of other instruments).
If we add to this functionality the synthesis options of Drumkv1, in minutes you can have a unique percussion kit tailored exactly to what you're trying to achieve.

hi, thanks

first let me tell that I do really appreciate (all) your ideas, sincerely with no condescending or patronizing bias, whatever...

let's get real, drumkv1 (as any other of the vee-ones to tell the truth) are not meant to be that good at the UI/UX-scape...

in fact, they're meant to do one job and only: get a sound sample out, with some old-school synthesis features on the wagon and optionally with some audio fx... and hopefully, that's their primary mission, tout couer!

now, making or adding up to that job is, say, probably a waste of time: the benefits won't quite break-even to the efforts or costs... and you may ask, why? well, it's all about matching the classical supply/demand curve ain't it?

cheers

I load lots of samples I want to choose from, of course each bound to a different MIDI note. That's how drumkv1 works.
In Qtractor I load the plugin "MIDI Chromatic Transpose" from the X42 midifilter collection, see https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-midifilter

Then I start Qtractor, have it play a pattern and switch between the played sample on the fly by changing the transpose amount.

Hi Rui:

My requests are more like proposals than requests :).
When I saw all the work involved in my last request for Drumkv1, I felt a bit embarrassed. I thought it would be simple. I come from a web development background. And I think in those terms.
In a web environment, changing the color of an element between defined states is as simple as adding a CSS class associated with the state and performing the class change with JavaScript. But Qt/C++ is infinitely more complex.

@bluebell, thanks for the tip. It doesn't exactly fit what I need (GM compatible), but it's a good idea that can work for many cases.

The funny thing is that if we combine the GUI with the properties UI, where the sample is a dropdown list (QcomboBox), it almost works as I want. The only thing missing is the ability to preload samples from the directory in the dropdown.

I just started a project. If I finish it, maybe it'll make sense to revisit this topic.

Thanks, Rui.
