The Plugins window is a feature that doesn't depend on the user, but on Qtractor. The user can't edit or change any properties, only load plugins, which Qtractor has previously scanned and categorized by type.
So, what icon is expected? The one for Qtractor with the plugin... and that's why the icon is called: qtractorPlugin
Everything seems to indicate that it was created to work this way and that you got confused when assigning the icons to the windows.
any floating/top-level/modeless window, that might appear externally on some WM/DE-list, must show the qtractor official icon somehow, hence the gramophone;
all other, specially all the modal dialogs (eg. plugin select dialog) may show something else, as it probably won't show in any external WM/DE lists besides the window title.
are you, by any chance, just nitpicking about the icon name "qtractorPlugin" having the "qtractor" prefix but the graphic incidentally doesn't show any gramophone at all ? :)
I'm just pointing out the expected logic. As for the gramophone icon if it's displayed as an external window, it makes perfect sense. (By the way, qtractorPlugin does have the gramophone, so I'll attach it.)
I need to review my theme; I deleted all the gramophones :S (except for the one in the main window, of course).
The reason is that I didn't understand why it appeared sometimes and not other times, and since it's 3D and my icons are flat, it's difficult to integrate.
I'll see how to integrate it.
P.S.
Don't expect me to criticize anything, I'm just stating my point of view :).
As I said, I don't quite understand it, I'll do some tests tomorrow.
I've had time to figure it out. I'm a bit slow sometimes, and I don't consider it a bad thing :).
My conclusions:
1_
The "Plugin Editor" window can't have the "pluginEdit" icon, because it's a separate window, and that would cause confusion for the user. To make the user perceive the window as part of the application, including the Qtractor Gramophone in the window icon is a good idea.
(In my new version of the theme, which I haven't uploaded yet, I've corrected this in the plugin editing and MIDI editor windows, which are the ones that remain separate in the standard configuration.)
2_
However, according to my logic, the "Plugins" window... shouldn't have the "pluginEdit" icon... because that window has nothing to do with editing plugins. It should have its own "qtractorPlugins" icon.
Don't you want to create a new icon and use the same one? Okay, duplicate it and rename it. But it must have the correct nomenclature, otherwise the logic is compromised.

I should stop using the word "error." After all, they are approaches. First, explain the approach, then determine whether there is an error, or simply whether the new approach contributes something.
re. Changed icons...
what exactly is the "error"?
what's wrong with that? do you have another suggestion?
ummm

It's not a matter of graphics :)
re. Changed icons...
the rationale here is the following:
are you, by any chance, just nitpicking about the icon name "qtractorPlugin" having the "qtractor" prefix but the graphic incidentally doesn't show any gramophone at all ? :)

ouch my bad!
the plugin selection dialog icon name is in fact "pluginEdit".
and it doesn't show a gramophone, just the plain jigsaw piece alright.
sorry

Best regards :)
brand new icon?
as in qtractor >= 1.5.6.7git.72c034...
applies to the plugin selection dialog only:

is that now ok with you? ;)
ps. just in case you wish to improve on it--almost sure you wanna do just that;)--the svg is here:

cheers
Thanks!
I'm going to copy the concept and adapt it to my graphics. I hadn't realized the obviousness of the magnifying glass :).
