[SOLVED] Play a .mid file to a single VST plugin?

Forums

Hi

I'm on Arch Linux KDE.

I installed:
qtractor
yabridge
yabridgectl
Roland Sound Canvas VA MIDI VST plugin https://archive.org/download/roland-sound-canvas-va , Sound Canvas VA v1.1.6 (64-bit).7z , Setup SOUND Canvas VA v1.1.6.exe (Official: https://www.roland.com/us/products/rc_sound_canvas_va/ ) via Steam, Proton Experimental.

The .mid file:
06 - Ackerlight.mid https://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php/DX-Ball_(W32) , https://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/images/6/68/DX-Ball_%28W32%29.zip .

Qtractor, Track, Import Tracks, MIDI..., 06 - Ackerlight.mid
it has 5 tracks.

I can:
right click the rectangle under Master of a track, Add Plugin..., SOUND Canvas VA, OK
for all the tracks.

But the issue:
There are multiple instances of SOUND Canvas VA, I can set such setting to an instance of a track, other setting to an other instance of an other track...

So the title? How to play the .mid to a single instance of SOUND Canvas VA?

Thanks.

1. Place the plugin on the Master MIDI bus (since it's a multi-channel Synth, you don't need multiple instances, just one)

2. Go to the track properties and assign:

* Channel
* Instrument Definition (Qtractor comes with the "Roland GS" standard pre-installed)
* Bank
* Program

Unless that particular plugin works in a specific way and the instruments are assigned in the plugin. Then you just need to assign the channel to the track, and the rest of the settings in the plugin.

PS:
In any case, I recommend https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-gmsynth, which is native to Linux and probably sounds better.

This one lacks an interface; assignments are made from the track properties, as I've indicated.

View, Buses..., Master - MIDI bus, Output Plugins, Add..., SOUND Canvas VA, OK
Track, Import Tracks, MIDI..., 06 - Ackerlight.mid

It works! Thanks.

sudo pacman -S gmsynth.lv2
View, Buses..., Master - MIDI bus, Output Plugins, Add..., General MIDI Synth, OK
Track, Import Tracks, MIDI..., 06 - Ackerlight.mid

It sounds rather differently, I prefer the good old SOUND Canvas VA.
