It would be cool if there was a way to enter the latency of the returned signal in milliseconds and/or samples. If the Insert Send is active then this latency should be displayed in the track's plugin tab and be compensated if Latency Compensation is checked.
This would make it possible to insert external soft- and hardware devices in tracks and get their latency compensated.
re. Latency compensation with Audio Inserts...
So this will be an arbitrary latency value that the user is responsible to maintain accurately on his/her own, right?
yes, but …
Since this would be relatively easy to implement I'd do it like that.
A 2nd step could be adding an assisting option that measures the latency when a "Get latency" knob is pressed.
Since there are so many variations this should not be fully automated, so the user is always in control.
re. Latency compensation with Audio Inserts...
basic is done, in qtractor >= 1.5.9.3git.9dfcb3
cheers
Works fine
Thx, Rui. I tested it with external hardware and it works as it should. I can use the number of frames that jack_iodelay displays.
I think it's sufficient to enter the value in frames only. But could you display the value in ms as well as in Track->Plugins. That would be helpful.
re. display the value in ms..
is now in qractor >= 1.5.9.4git.56979b

re: ms
Thanks Rui, that's great.
Only in tracks
After playing around with it I became aware that latency compensation is only possible in tracks as I understood. So the latency setting should only be present when the Insert Send is in a track, not in a bus.
re. Only in tracks...
correct, this new parameter is irrelevant/no-op on buses.
To avoid confusion …
I propose graying it out or not displaying it at all when Insert Sends are in buses.
re. To avoid confusion...
done in qtractor >= 1.5.9.5git.299893

perfect
It's perfect. Thanks, Rui.
