How to extend note in step record mode

I'm not sure wether this is a missing feature or I'm just dumb. But I cannot find a good way to extend the note I'm playing while on step recording mode in the pianoroll. Right arrow just adds a rest everytime, it would be perfect while holding my key then pressing right arrow it would extend the note and if I'm not holding the key then it would be rest. I know there are binds for snap length but its just fractions of beats. I'm on version 1.5.11.7, QT 6.4.2.
