Text track in Qtractor?

Hi Rui

I have to admit my first introduction to sound production was 2 Revox B tape machines and a portable Sony mixer. One of the nice features of the Revox Bs was to stop the tape by pushing the tape away from the drive capstan - no clicks or pops as the motors with constant torque drives continued to rotate. Nowadays in the rare few moments I have to creative I fire up the magnificent Qtractor. Enough of this reminiscing...

New feature request:

In addition to being able to insert audio and midi-tracks I would like to be able to insert a text-track whereby:

- in play-back mode with a single key press I can stop the playhead at the current position, and
- the program automatically puts a 'flag' in the text-track, and
- a text-editor opens so that I can add a comment to the flag such as "add synth pad here", "Punch in / remove wrong notes here" etc..

After entering the comment I would then back-up the play head a couple of bars and start the play-back mode from this point on.

A bonus would be if I could open a list of all comments and then jump the playhead / view to one of the flagged positions...

Does this make sense..? I suspect you have much better ideas already.

Best regards, Simon

Indeed, this might be addressed by time-line markers or labels, something in the original plan but not currently written down in the TODO.

No worries :) In the way I have in (my tortuous) mind, it will be just an extension to the existing tempo/time-signature map. That meaning, you won't have text tracks per se, but you'll be allowed to enter arbitrary text comments or labels over the time ruler and navigate through its listing, of course.

Cheers

Hi Rui

Your proposed solution sounds just fine and please add to the TODO list.

Indecently, do you have an official TODO list? That is a list where Qtractor users can vote for what they think is important to them?

Best regards, Simon
