The "MTC In" port is used for synchronizing Ardour with an external "timecode" source.

You likely want to enable the "Generic MIDI" control surface (in the Preferences window), and then connect to the newly-exposed "MIDI control in" port. You may also need to set up bindings for the CCs sent by Qmidictl.
