as you may well compare, the two main GUI screenshots are very similar, besides the actual session content which the later exposes automation curves (>= 0.5.0) in fact you might see one little difference on the main GUI between the two: the "(edit) track automation" button (a little white arrow pointing to a yellow star).

anyway, if the about box says it's version 0.5.5 then it's the new GUI alright :)
