I finally got to the "ever returning" Jack problem solved - for my sake - when i read that.

For what I can tell - this could be enlightening 4 you too - hope so :)
In short you drop the "qjackctl Connections windows" - turn over to Pachbay - which give you a bit more creative ways to do the linking
